Fall has always been the season of great changes in my life. The flamboyant colors of Quebec’s forests, followed by leaves fall, the air becomes fresher and invigorating, children return to school, vegetable gardens overflow with a thousand treasures … All these changes generate more work and, sometimes unfortunately, can cause an increase in stress levels.
So take a deep breath (go, do it!). Slowly … inspire … exhale … just as slowly. Relaxed? No? Repeat (yes, really!). Good. There we are! Aaah!!! Your first step towards relaxation has been made. A very small step indeed. A good breath will not only help you calm down, but also clarify your mind and your immunity.
Did you know that meditating regularly can help more than just your mind? Indeed, this practice will change several aspects of your daily life once established.
I am initiating myself to this ancestral practice. I’ve always been “far too busy” to even consider taking quiet time … to meditate! Quick quick quick! A hundred kilometers an hour! If you do not know anything about it, meditation can be intimidating but there are so many choices! Which one will you like? Which will be … the most profitable (hey yes, always the down-to-earth considerations, isn’t it)?
I discovered that not only would my mind calm down (a good thing for my overworked mind) but also that my immunity would be increased. Science shows more and more that regular meditation can improve blood circulation, lower cholesterol level, end insomnia (hurray!!!), calm chronic pain, counteract anxiety, add years to your life (and life to your years!) and even relieve gastrointestinal problems. How? Simple: Meditation is a wonderful way to lessen stress in our daily lives. This stress makes us miserable, yes, but it also affects our physical health. Reducing stress is therefore tantamount to diminishing a major factor that undermines our vitality.
Will you join me for a daily meditation? I’ll come back with an analysis of the various styles I experienced. Who knows what pleasure awaits us? Tell me about your experiments (and your results)! I can not wait to see what meditation will do for YOU!
