Known for thousands of years in the Middle East and North Africa, sidr (Ziziphus spina-christi) is a powder made from the dried leaves of the jujube tree. Long before modern shampoos appeared, it was already used to gently cleanse the hair while respecting the scalp. Rich in natural saponins, it provides gentle cleansing without stripping the hair and scalp of their natural protective oils, making it an excellent alternative to harsh shampoos.
Sidr is particularly appreciated for dry, curly, colored, or damaged hair. It helps cleanse the scalp, regulate excess sebum, add shine, and strengthen the hair fiber. With regular use, it can help leave hair softer and stronger while promoting a healthier scalp. In several traditional practices, it is also used to soothe itching and as part of hair-care routines for dandruff.
