Pomegranate

11/02/2021

I have a few pomegranate trees growing not far from where I live (no, I’m not based in Quebec) – so I can clearly see the season when this delicious fruit reaches maturity: around August. Hundreds of small seeds to be shelled (we do not eat the white flesh of the fruit, indigestible), I remember that in Montreal they sold in IGA seeds already ready to eat. But all the pleasure of the effort is missing, and what a meditation when you sit down to remove them yourself …

grenadier

In short, here is a photo of the pomegranate tree not far from where I live, and some therapeutic applications of the fruit, in theform of juice or oil or as fresh fruit.

Pomegranate Seed Vegetable Oil

Properties:

Anti-oxidant,
nourishing,
regenerating.

As it has a lot of vitamin E (hence its antioxidant quality), this oil can be used as an anti-aging remedy, therefore with skin repairs or to fight against the signs of aging. Although if you asked my mother, she would have told you that wrinkles are beautiful, it is a sign that we have lived! Why hide it? The same antioxidant property means that it can also be used as a remedy for chapped skin, burns or dry skin.

Also, pomegranate seed oil promotes cell renewal, hydration and therefore very practical for supple and protected skin … Some also use it on dry and damaged ends of the hair, to repair them.

Fresh Fruit

Important source of anti-oxidants again.

Anti-inflammatory action therefore which makes it possible to fight against certain degenerations of the brain (Alzheimer’s or Parkinson’s diseases for example).

Pomegranate is rich in vitamins and is among the fruits most loaded with vitamin C, with up to 6 mg per 100 g. Its main advantage is that it is very rich in antioxidants (3 to 4 times more than wine or tea) thanks to its content of vitamins C and B6.
Composed of 80% water, it is also a fruit that dehydrates!

It will keep for about 3 weeks in the vegetable drawer of the refrigerator.

Pomegranate juice

Understand:

  • Anthocyanins,
  • tannins and
  • ellagic acid.

These three compounds slow down cellular aging. They are present in greater numbers than in goji berries or green tea. We speak of anti-cancer virtue for pomegranate juice because of this. Particularly at the preventive level for prostate cancer and breast cancer.

Pomegranate juice is also said to improve blood circulation and lower blood pressure, thereby reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. It is thus used to prevent or cure atherosclerosis. This slowly progressing disease is characterized by plaque formation that clogs the arteries, and is the cause of most heart disease.

We also owe it important anti-infectious properties (pomegranate is recommended in particular to fight against oral infections) and participates in the proper functioning of the immune system.

Small Note on Fruit Juices

It’s not worth buying anything other than fresh juices, which haven’t been boiled to increase their shelf life !! The ideal is still to invest in a juice machine (the blender does not count) and to do it yourself at home for more freshness! For the pomegranate, be careful: the white flesh must not be included in the composition of the juice … under penalty of stomach aches!
