For this month of July, we got a flower from the Helichrysum plant, with great Essential Oil: the Immortal flower, yellow as the sun (Helios = sun in greek and latin). It’s not the cheapest oil (10 euros for 2mL on aromazone) but it’s because it’s such a rare species: one has to go on the rocky mountains of Corsica or Italy in order to fetch it.
Now, part from the gorgeous images it evokes, what does this EO do, essentially?
Well, the reason why it’s part of our “Home Remedies/Emergency Kit” in the AMCC aromatherapy course, is that Helichrysum is the most powerful EO to prevent hematomas when the little one bumped his head (again). But wait.
What is a Hematoma again?
Not all of us are scientifics or used to the scientific names for everyday problems. So here it is, a hematoma is…
A bump! Blue preferably. It appears very regularly on the foreheads of little boys who like to give it their all and not look at the consequences. It usually takes 3 to 4 weeks for a hematoma to resolve completely, so it is not uncommon to see two bruises on the same forehead at the same time. Because 4 weeks without a bump on the forehead is a long time …
Now, if you put the HE Helichrysum immediately after the blow, chances are that there will not even be a hematoma on the forehead (or elsewhere: leg, foot ..)
Some apply it with a roll on, mixed with aloe vera gel and another EO, such as mint.
It is true that in principle, HE Helichrysum is not recommended for young children. If it is diluted enough, many are willing to take the risk.
Indications (and contraindications) for Helichrysum
Already in contraindications, we can mention pregnant and breastfeeding women. And as mentioned, for children it depends on the degree of dilution, the age of the child, where he got the blow.
Be careful because it is a neurotoxic oil (effect of chemicals that disrupt the nervous system) , if the subject is sensitive to ketones it is better to avoid.
For the list of indications and properties, it is already a little longer, we will start with the best known:
- bruises, trauma, wounds
- polyarthritis and therefore arthritis
- stimulates the liver
Then we can add that this EO is expectorant, so practical in case of spasmodic cough or bronchitis. In the same vein, it helps in cases of rhinitis or viral colitis. As it is antiphlebitic (is that even a word?), it helps in case of phlebitis. Also, it has demonstrated its virtues in case of rosacea. What is that? You could say that it is a dilation of the small vessels that irrigate the skin. Take the example of Sandrine’s mother who tells us:
“My 77-year-old mother used it, diluted in the all-purpose cream, at the rate of 17 drops of helichrysum for 50 ml of cream: It is effective on a well-established rosacea, but you have to wait 7 to 8 weeks of daily use (1 application per day) to see the results: The skin is more beautiful, less sensitive and the small veins, which are less dilated, are hardly visible. She is delighted. ”
It is also recommended, in cases of osteoarthritis and rheumatic pain, to mix EO Immortelle with Gaultheria Procumbens (topically on the skin).
Dupuytren’s disease
Another advantage of learning about essential oils is all the diseases that we did not know about and where EO can lend a helping hand. Suddenly, we are so grateful to have the iron health that we have and not to have to treat with Helichrysum cases of cholera, headaches of hepatic origin or dupuytren’s disease. So let’s see what it’s all about, just to be even more grateful that we don’t have it (I hope none of our readers have it either).
It is a progressive retraction of the fibrous tissue located in the palm of the hand, which produces flexion of the fingers. Or in more complicated terms: retractile fibrosis of the palmar fascia. In allopathic medicine, the following three treatments are offered: injection of a corticosteroid, injection of collagenase or / and surgery. With Helichrysum, you can massage 3 times a day and potentially avoid surgery. It is advisable to make the following mixture:

Here is how we can go about this famous hand massage:
Massage the palm of the hand, stretching the palm of the hand backwards and maintaining this position for a few seconds each time. Repeat 20 to 50 times, 2-3 times a day.
Conclusion: Immortelle for young and old
So as we have seen, this EO helps in many age-related problems: wrinkles (although some women like their wrinkles, a sign of wisdom!), Arthritis, osteoarthritis … but also for the sores of the youngest who get hit all the time. So we can go through life without pain (or almost) and get through the blows that we receive, keep smiling and move forward!
The liver, which it helps to stimulate, is also symbolically associated with adaptation to circumstances. You absolutely have to get the Symbolism of the Human Body course from the AMCC, to appreciate the depth of each of our organs!
