Homeopathy to Help with Baby Colic

08/05/2019

According to a recently published study (August 2019), homeopathy is very effective in counteracting infantile colic.

Results in only Ten Days

Indeed, the study shows that on the 10th day, there were more infants aged ≤ 6 months without complaint in the group treated homeopathically. In addition, more patients in this group did not have the following objective symptoms by day 10: rash, dry skin, intertrigo, tongue lining, abdominal bloating, pain on palpation, loose stools, and hard stools.

Also, the assessments of the investigators and the relatives of the patients revealed:

  • a higher proportion of patients in the homeopathy group had no complaints.
  • a higher proportion of parents in the homeopathy group were “very satisfied” with the treatment. In good French it means: no more sleepless nights!

Integrative Medicine in Pediatrics

In the study we are talking about a new branch of children’s medicine: integrative medicine. This is a popular term that means the same thing as alternative medicine or complementary medicine. One of its goals is to define effective and safe treatment methods for children. Although it is known that homeopathy meets these criteria, there is a gap in scientific evidence.

The present study aims to contribute to clinical research evidence in homeopathy in gastroenterology. Indeed, it provides data on the homeopathic treatment of infantile colic. This is a syndrome for which there is still no consensus on management and treatment.

One can thus include in his homoeopathic practice the results of this research.

Indeed, one of the major problems of research in complementary medicine is the methodological weakness of the studies. In addition to being a multi-center, randomised controlled trial, the current data come from a study with sufficient sample size and a very low drop-out rate. In addition, the results of the analysis of the main results with statistically significant results were confirmed by a sensitivity analysis based solely on complete data, demonstrating the robustness of the results.

Concluding Results

In examining the results, homeopathic treatment had a significant beneficial effect on sleep disorders and unmotivated agitation. It is known that sleep deprivation is one of the factors that makes parents anxious and frustrated and encourages them to seek medical attention. Reducing these complaints could reduce parents’ stress and thus improve the functioning of the family.

In conclusion, Enterokind*, the homeopathy medicine used, was effective and safe for infants under 6 months of age.

*Enterokind® (DHU-Arzneimittel GmbH & Co. KG, Karlsruhe, Germany) contains 5 active ingredients, in D6 dilution: Chamomilla, Cina, Colocynthis, Lac defloratum, and Magnesium chloratum.
