Mistletoe – Viscum album
Although partially used in gemmotherapy, mistletoe reveals a much broader and well-documented therapeutic potential in phytotherapy.
Nervous system and endocrine glands
Recognized for its antispasmodic properties, mistletoe macerate is used in convulsive conditions and certain epileptiform disorders, helping to calm neuromuscular hyperexcitability.
Urogenital system
Traditionally, it supports kidney inflammation, such as nephritis. In the genital sphere, it helps relieve neuralgic pain and manage imbalances related to menopause (migraines, excessive bleeding) and some andropause issues.
Musculoskeletal system
Mistletoe is also used to improve joint mobility and soothe various rheumatic pains, including sciatica, osteoarthritis, periarticular rheumatism, gout, and shoulder periarthritis.
ENT (ear, nose, throat) sphere
Authors, including Dr. Pitera, report its usefulness for auditory issues such as tinnitus, hearing loss, and otosclerotic deafness.
Respiratory system
Its effects extend to chronic respiratory conditions, including emphysema and certain forms of cardiac-related asthma.
Cardiovascular and metabolic system
Mistletoe stands out for circulatory support: it helps protect arteries against sclerosis, promotes capillary relaxation (explaining its hypotensive effect), and supports heart function. It also aids in reducing blood lipid excess, including hypercholesterolemia and other lipid disorders, while supporting vascular complications linked to diabetes or chronic cardio-pulmonary overload.
