Asthenia
Asthenia, commonly known as fatigue, refers to a general weakening of the body accompanied by a noticeable drop in vitality. It can be perfectly normal after intense or prolonged physical effort, during pregnancy, or with advancing age.
However, when this fatigue persists despite adequate rest, it may indicate an underlying imbalance or health issue.
Asthenia can stem from multiple causes: viral infection, nutrient-deficient diet, psychological disorders, excess weight or cholesterol, folate deficiency, hypothyroidism, or, more rarely, a more serious condition such as leukemia. In such cases, a full medical evaluation is necessary.
It may manifest as varying degrees of tiredness (sometimes present upon waking), an increased need for sleep, muscle sluggishness, joint pain, or difficulty concentrating.
Natural Approaches to Relieve Fatigue
To support the body and restore energy and vitality, phytotherapy offers several effective options:
• Tonifying stimulants: Ceylon cinnamon (as an infusion), eleuthero (in tincture), ginseng (in various forms), or yerba maté.
• Fortifying plants: Sea buckthorn juice, acerola, or rosehip — all rich in natural vitamin C.
• Adaptogenic plants: These help the body adapt better to stress and restore balance — ginseng, eleuthero, rhodiola, ashwagandha, cinchona, sea buckthorn, goji, fenugreek, ginger, soy, or neem.
Anti-Fatigue Herbal Tea
Mix equal parts (about 30 g each) of:
- Crushed cinnamon bark
- Ginger rhizome
- Cardamom seeds
- Black or green tea
Use one teaspoon of the mixture per cup of boiling water and steep for 15 minutes before straining.
If fatigue persists beyond six days despite proper rest and good lifestyle habits, it is advisable to consult a physician to determine the cause.
