Both tangy and slightly sweet, oxymel is a traditional preparation that has been used since ancient times. Its principle is simple: combining vinegar, honey, and herbs to create a concentrated preparation that can easily be incorporated into your daily routine.
Vinegar acts as a medium for extracting certain plant compounds, while honey adds sweetness and naturally balances the acidity of the preparation.
Ingredients:
- 250 ml of organic apple cider vinegar
- 250 ml of raw honey
- 20–30 g of dried herbs or 40–60 g of fresh herbs
Preparation
Mix the vinegar and honey in equal parts. Add your chosen herb, then pour the mixture into a sealed jar.
Leave to macerate for 2 to 4 weeks in a dark place, shaking regularly. Then strain the preparation.
The resulting oxymel can be consumed diluted in a little hot or cold water.
Which Herb Should You Choose for Your Oxymel?
Thyme — A classic choice for autumn and winter, traditionally used to support respiratory and ENT health.
Rosemary — Particularly valued for supporting digestion while adding an aromatic and invigorating note.
Ginger — Its spicy, warming nature makes it an excellent choice for autumn and winter. It is especially appreciated for digestive comfort.
Garlic — For a much stronger-flavored oxymel, traditionally used during the winter season.
