blogNatural BeautyCarrot-Infused Oil: A Natural Way to Prepare Your Skin for the Sun

Rich in beta-carotene and antioxidants, carrot-infused oil (Daucus carota) is a summer skincare essential. It deeply nourishes the skin, enhances its natural radiance, and helps protect it against oxidative stress caused by sun exposure. Ideal for preparing the skin before sun exposure and soothing it afterward, this natural tanning oil promotes a healthy, long-lasting glow without ever replacing sunscreen. It should not be confused with carrot seed essential oil, which has different properties and uses.

DIY Carrot Body Scrub: A Natural Homemade Recipe

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons Himalayan pink salt
  • 2 tablespoons carrot-infused oil
  • 1 tablespoon shea oil (or melted shea butter)

Preparation

Place the Himalayan pink salt in a bowl. Add the carrot-infused oil and stir well. Then add the shea oil (or melted shea butter) and mix until the scrub reaches a smooth, even consistency.

How to Use

Apply to damp skin and gently massage in circular motions, paying particular attention to rough areas such as the elbows, knees, and legs. Rinse thoroughly in the shower.

➡️ Once before your first sun exposure to help prepare the skin.

➡️ Then, no more than once every two weeks throughout the summer.

Benefits

This gentle body scrub exfoliates the skin, removes dead skin cells, and helps promote a more even-looking tan. The result is soft, nourished skin that's ready to enjoy the sunshine.

Carrot & Shea Body Butter: A Whipped Moisturizer to Extend Your Tan

Ingredients

  • 4 tablespoons shea butter
  • 2 tablespoons carrot-infused oil

Optional: A few drops of yuzu essential oil, provided it is appropriate for your intended use and all safety precautions are followed. Personally, I would not recommend including it in a skincare product intended for use during summer or before sun exposure.

Preparation

Place the shea butter in a mixing bowl and whip it with an electric mixer for a few minutes until it becomes light and fluffy. Gradually add the carrot-infused oil while continuing to whip until you obtain a smooth, whipped body butter.

Storage

Store in a clean, airtight container away from heat and direct sunlight. Since this preparation contains no water, it can be kept for several months.

How to Use

Massage onto clean skin after showering. It is especially soothing after a day in the sun and can also be applied in the days leading up to sun exposure to deeply nourish and prepare the skin.

Benefits

This whipped body butter deeply nourishes and soothes the skin after sun exposure while helping to maintain softness and a healthy glow. Its light, airy texture leaves the skin silky smooth and helps prolong the appearance of a radiant tan.

Naturopath's Tip

Carrot-infused oil is valued primarily for its carotenoid content, particularly beta-carotene, which helps promote a healthy-looking complexion and enhances the skin's natural radiance. However, it does not protect against UV rays and should never be used as a substitute for sunscreen.

For best results, apply these preparations outside periods of direct sun exposure—ideally in the evening after showering, or in the morning, allowing the product to absorb fully before going outdoors.
